LECTURE BY THOMAS OLSEN
GUTTENBERG AND THE INVENTION OF PRINT; REVOLUTION OR EVOLUTION
SEPT. 10 2008 @ 7:00 PM

The digital revolution is to modern times what the invention of moveable type was to the 15th century. This fascinating lecture focuses on Johannes Gutenberg, who is credited with the invention of moveable type, and the printing of Gutenberg Bible. Thomas G. Olsen, an Associate
Professor in English at SUNY New Paltz and recipient of the Chancellor’s award for Excellence in Teaching, explores the “revolution. “
Slides of medieval manuscripts, early printing techniques, book binding & book illustrations will be shown. Questions concerning Gutenberg’s contribution and its influence throughout the world will be explored.
